Golden Acres Baptist Church

The first church service was held in a chicken house located on 28th Street on May 20, 1945. With 26 chartered members enthused about the Lord’s work, the church prospered and now has over 1,800 members.

At the present time, Golden Acres Baptist Church is the fastest growing church in the Russell Baptist Association. In 1997, Golden Acres Baptist called Rev. Tommy Fountain, Sr. as Pastor. Rev. Fountain and the church body assembled a Ministry Team (Staff) which implemented exciting new programs and breathed life into the existing ones that increased the membership by 740 new members in a 4-1/2 year period.

Renovations took place throughout the educational and worship facilities, and modern technology was added into the administrative areas. Hardware and software was purchased to take care of the administrative and growing needs of the congregation.

Golden Acres Baptist Church added 256 new members in 2001, and was recognized in February, 2002, for being ranked #9 out of 3,200 Baptist Churches in the State of Alabama for 128 Baptisms.

Adjacent property beside and behind the church was purchased for parking and expansion. Golden Acres was bottle necked at the old location with nowhere near the room needed to expand. To keep up with consistent and steady church growth – relocating and building was a must.

An overwhelming church vote took place in December, 1999, and the decision was unanimous to proceed with plans to relocate and construct new worship, educational, and recreational facilities located at the corner of Railroad Street and Lakewood Drive.

In September of 2003, with a new Pastor and anxious church body, the congregation of Golden Acres Baptist Church moved into a beautiful 29,000 sq. ft. worship facility with state of the art technology and ministries in place to reach all ages.

Under a newly restructured staff and our present Pastor, Dr. Ray Cummings, the church body has continued to grow in numbers that have required renovations and additions to the church campus.
